Subscription Lists

I ended up removing the ability to subscribe to my site until Squarespace updates its features. So far I’ve been extremely impressed with Squarespace as a website builder. Can’t say they lack features as I’ve never built one before, works in their favor. :)

Like most self-published authors, I wanted a subscriber list in order to communicate updates for my book series, especially with The Heart of the North now available for preorder on Kindle. However, Squarespace requires a physical address on the footer…yeah, no, not doing that. Anyone else think that doesn’t sound safe? Can’t be just me. Even if we weren’t living in a most contentious age, I wouldn’t give out my address. I’ve cool stuff! Well, to me it’s cool, my lady disagrees, but she does so with a smirk. That means she actually does… Right?

Anyway… Squarespace recommends renting a PO Box or using an alternative address. Answer is still no. Still requires money. Their response refers to an anti-spam campaign; however, this still exposes those who work strictly online: writers, bloggers, all various types of creators. Squarespace and other website services should offer an alternative. Until then, I’ll continue to use my Instagram page (icon in the header) to communicate updates :)
